Tigers Sunk as Pirates Claim Treasure

The Paisley Pirates plundered 2 points and the SNL trophy on Saturday night as they defeated the Dundee Tigers by a scoreline of 6 goals to nil at Dundee Ice Arena. The game was closely contested in the opening session with nei

ther team able to break through the opposing defences.

A facial injury to Tigers Mark McLeod caused by an errant puck with six minutes played in the second period seemed to shellshock the hosts though and the Pirates scored within 30 seconds of the game restarting through Liam Riddell. Half a minute later the scoreline had been doubled as Calum Blair found the net after shooting home from the back post. David Orr and Chris Wilson increased the Pirates advantage before the end of the period to give the title chasers a commanding 4 goal lead going in to the final 20 minutes.

The Tigers looked like they were ready to try and claw themselves back in to the game with some early pressure in the 3rd period but a penalty to Callum Turnbull killed momentum and a well worked goal for the visitors by Ross Jordan on the resultant powerplay took the wind out of the Tigers sails. With the SNL trophy in their sights the Pirates continued to push and were rewarded with 8 minute left on the clock as Connor Speirs pointshot made it in to the back of the net for the final goal of the night.

A disappointed Tigers spokesman said “We came out with a gameplan and executed it well in the first period. We then seemed to lose concentration for minute in the second period and the Pirates scored 2 quick goals. After that we were chasing the game and it left us exposed.

The Pirates are a quality side and they have the most depth in the league. We knew it would be a big ask to get the result but we gave it our all with a threadbare squad. We have to congratulate them on their success but it was a difficult result to be a part of”
