Tigers Shot Down In Elgin

The Dundee Tigers slipped to a disappointing defeat on Saturday night as they were downed 4-3 by the Moray Typhoons in Elgin.

The game got off to a physical start as the hosts showed their adeptness on the small Elgin icepad and Tigers guest goalie, Gavin Stark, was quickly called in to action. The keeper made a series of fine saves to settle the visitors nerves and the Tigers were soon on the attack. The action continued end to end but the period closed scoreless.

The Tigers felt the wrath of the referees whistle early in the second session and the Typhoons took full advantage as Kevin Russell opened the scoring at 21:56. Tigers pulled level on 25:46 as Callum Turnbull neatly placed the puck in the far corner of the net. Less than a minute later Tigers playmaker Andy Henderson was harshly assessed a 5+ Game penalty for checking from behind and the Typhoons opened up a 2 goal lead on the resultant powerplay with goals from Fraser Munro and Gavin Millar. The Travelling Tigers were not ready to lie down though and at 37:52 Turnbull became provider as he danced out of the corner before passing the puck to Ben MacFarlane who fired home. Just a minute later the score was tied once more as Callum Turnbull bagged his second of the night after showing impressive skill to find space before finding the net to conclude the period scoring.

With 2 very valuable points at stake both teams came out firing in the 3rd period and it looked like the Tigers had bagged the go ahead goal with 10 minutes remaining when Scott Marr poked home from close range. However, after protestations from the home side referee Young changed his original award and washed out the goal. 2 minutes later the home team took the lead for the 3rd time through Russell whose speculative wide angle shot somehow made its way in to the visitors net. The visitors pushed hard in the closing minutes but could not find a way past Craig Johnstone in the home net and the Tigers made their way home with their tails between their legs.

Final score: Typhoons 4 - Tigers 3
