Tigers Grab 1st Leg Lead

The Dundee Tigers grabbed a 2 goal advantage in their Scottish Cup tie against the Kirkcaldy Kestrels on Saturday night in a thrilling 5-3 victory.

Kestrels drew first blood in the contest as Conor Duncan created space for himself to fire high in to the net after just 6 minutes. Tigers responded through Calum Turnbull who turned home a rebound to tie things up with 12 minutes gone. The 17th minute saw Tigers #17 Grant Reekie give the hosts a 1 goal lead before the Kestrels drew back level with just over a minute to play as Calum Robertson managed to bat home the visitors 2nd after a tussle in front of the home goal.

The Tigers pulled ahead for the second time in the 29th minute as Andrew henderson found the target. Mark McGill in the home net pulled off some fine saves to deny the Kestrels as they applied pressure but his heroics could not stop the visitors indefinately and they levelled through Robin Floyd with just 3 seconds left to play.

The hosts were clearly determined to regain the momentum as the 3rd period got under way and in the 44th minute they went ahead as Rich Fox was rewarded for his hard work on the night. That reward was doubled in the 53rd minute when Fox tipped a deft deflection past a strandeed Kestrels keeper with the final goal of the night.

Tigers now take 2 goal lead in to Sunday's 2nd leg in Kirkcaldy with a place in the semi-finals of the Scottish Cup at stake.
