Tigers Move On To Scottish Cup Semi-final

The Dundee Tigers booked their place in the Scottish Cup Semi Finals on Sunday night despite losing the second leg of the tie 3-2 against Kirkcaldy Kestrels.

The Tigers carried a 2 goal advantage in to the second game in as many nights to set up an enthralling encounter.

The Fife side set out their stall early with an aggressive start to the period. They were rewarded for their efforts at 4:57 as Chad Smith bagged the first goal of the night on a powerplay attempt. Tigers fought back immediately though as Ross Bree fired home after picking up a rebound in front of the Kestrels goal at 7:31.

The second period brought some end to end hockey but the teams were separated by a calm and collected Paul Guilcher, who outwaited the Kestrels keeper to nonchalantly slot home the only goal of the session at 30:41.

The Kestrels had it all to do in the last 20 minutes and came out flying. A Period of sustained pressure was rewarded when at 46:16 Garry Simpson took advantage of some defensive confusion to beat Mark McGill. A powerplay for the Kestrels opened up an opportunity for Caly Robertson to fire home and close the aggregate deficit to a single goal with 6 minutes remaining, setting up a grandstand close to the game. With the Fifers desperate to haul themselves back in to the tie a series of impressive saves by McGill clipped the Kestrels wings and the Tigers held on for victory over the 2 legs.

The Tigers now progress to the Scottish Cup Semi-finals where they will face local rivals Dundee Comets for a place in the Final.
