The original Dundee Tigers first took to the ice at the Kingsway Rink in 1938, competing in the Scottish National League alongside teams such as the Fife Flyers, Perth Panthers, Falkirk Lions, Glasgow Mustangs and Kelvingrove. Success was instant and the Tigers won the league in 1939, 1940 & 1949 before disbanding in 1955 only a season after the Scottish National League merged with the English National League to form the British National League.

After a number of hockey free years in Dundee the game returned to the Kingsway Rink with the formation of the Rockets in 1963. The Rockets won the Northern League in 1973 & 1982, the British Championships in 1982, 1983 & 1984, and the British League and Heineken Championships in 1983 & 1984.

In 1987 the Rockets ceased to exist and the Tigers were re-incarnated and played in the British Hockey League. With the closure and demolition of the Kingsway Rink in 1993 the Tigers became nomadic playing home games out of Glenrothes, Livingston, Murrayfield and Kirkcaldy in a variety of leagues.

After years on the road the opening of Dundee Ice Arena in 2000 signaled the return of the Tigers to Dundee. In the 2000/01 season the Tigers regularly performed in front of more than 1000 spectators at DIA on their way to collecting the Scottish National League title. More recently the Tigers won the SNL Playoff Title in 2012/13, seeing off the Paisley Pirates in the season ending Final.
