Timid Tigers Torn Apart By Comets

The Dundee Tigers were blown away by a rampant Comets side on Sunday night as they slumped to a 9-2 loss.

The visiting Comets got on the score board first through ex-elite league marksman John Dolan with a short-handed goal at 5:56. Dolan doubled his own tally and the lead at 9:44 before Tigers responded through Grant Reekie who sniped high in to the visitors net at 10:20. Comets restored their 2 goal cushion through John Gordon who found time and space to fire home and a cruel deflection off a Tigers defender from wayward Kris Phillips point shot on 17:18 saw the visiting side take a commanding 3 goal lead in to the period break.

The Comets carried on where they left off in the second period as Lewis Gold found the net with 23:28 played. A 2+2 penalty for high sticking assessed to Richy Fox provided the visitors an extended advantage and they made full use with goals by Billy Baxter and Andrew Pankhurst to take the scorelineto 7-1 before the midway point in the game. Kris Inglis added Comets 8th on 36:53 to conclude the periods scoring.

With the game dead as a contest the final session lacked any of the drama of the first 2. The Comets forced home their 9th through Jamie Whitelaw at 57:59 and Marc Leggatt grabbed a consolation second goal for the Tigers with 15 second left to play to close the scoring on one of the most one sided Dundee Derby’s in recent memory.

Final Score: Tigers 2 – Comets 9

MoM: Andy Henderson
