Tigers Downed By Capitals

Dundee Tigers traveled to Edinburgh late on Sunday night where they were defeated 6-3 by the Capitals in the cruelest of fashions.

The Tigers looked sharp in the early stages of the game and it was no surprise when they took the lead in the 11th minute through Scott Marr, a close range snap after a perfect feed from Paul Guilcher. The visitors had the best of the chance in the period but couldn't convert and went to the dressing room with a slender advantage at the first break.

The second period started with a flurry of activity. Capitals drew level in the 23rd minute before Grant Reekie restored the visitors lead less than a minute later. Thing took a turn for the strange when Scott Beattie levelled things up in the 26th minute, his floated dump on net somehow making its way past Mark McGill in the Tigers net. It was obvious that luck was not in the Tigers favour as the hosts went in front in the 28th minute when an attempted pass by Bruce Tait deflected off a defender's skate and in to the net. Tigers redoubled their efforts but could not find the net and the period concluded with the result hanging in the balance.

Tigers came out determined to make up ground in the third period but another freak incident saw Ross Hay attributed with his 2nd goal of the night in the 42nd minute when the puck popped up in front of the net and dropped behind the Tigers keeper. With the visitors despondent Joel Gautschi extended the Capitals lead with goals in the 49th and 53rd minutes before Paul Guilcher latched on to a stretch pass and picked up his own rebound for Tigers 3rd and the final goal of the night with 30 seconds left to play.

Ian Carstairs, Tigers veteran defender said after the game. "This did not feel like a 6-3 game. The bounces definitely didn't go our way and it's hard to take. The Capitals scored 3 freak goals that gave them a bit of momentum while at the other end we failed to put away our numerous chances.

They had a couple of their Elite players icing for them but it's still a game we could have and should have won.

We now need to regroup and prepare for a huge game against the Dundee Comets this Saturday."

Final score: Capitals 6 - Tigers 3

MoM: Paul Guilcher
