Kestrels soar past Tigers

The Dundee Tigers slipped to their 7th defeat of the 2015/16 season on Sunday night at the hands of the Kirkcaldy Kestrels at Dundee Ice Arena.

The home team started the contest brightly and applied early pressure on the Kestrels net. It was the visitors who swooped with the first goal of the night though, as with a player apiece in the penalty box, Conor Duncan broke free and fired the puck high over the shoulder of Robbie Balfour in the Tigers net with 5 minutes on the clock. The Tigers were back on level terms by the midway point of the period as birthday boy Grant Reekie sprung loose and fired high beyond Little in the Fife goal. Tigers appeared to have the better of the play for the remainder of the first period but there was to be no further scoring and the teams entered the intermission tied on 1.

The Tigers started the second session with the man advantage but couldn’t make it count to build momentum early doors. It took until the 32nd minute before the deadlock was broken as a lapse in defensive duties by the Tigers allowed Matthew Farmer to find space and stick the puck in the back of the net. Kestrels doubled their lead in the 36th minute as Conor Duncan notched his second of the night as he muscled his way from the corner and bundled the puck home and conclude the period’s scoring.

The Tigers needed to summon all their strength of character in the final 20 minutes if they were to recover any hope of taking points from this matchup but despite outshooting their visitors 17-13 as the game closed there was to be no further scoring.

Final Score: Tigers 1 – Kestrels 3

Tigers MOM: Grant Reekie
