Tigers Score 8 To Erase Capitals

The Dundee Tigers returned from their visit to Scotland’s first city with 2 valuable points on Sunday night after a ding dong battle that could have gone either way.

The game could not have gotten off to worse start for the Taysiders who found themselves 2 goals down within just 8 minutes as Craig Main opened the scoring by picking up on his own rebound to fire home from close range, followed by another bundled effort from inside the paint by Michael Ireland. Tigers looked to settle in to the game from this point though and made use of the large Murrayfield ice pad to create opportunities for themselves. With 3 minutes remaining in the period Eck Purves cut the deficit in half as he waltzed in to the Caps zone before rounding a defender and sending the puck in to the roof of the net to conclude the periods scoring.

The second session got underway with Tigers in the ascendency and it took less than 2 minute for Ross Bree to bring the teams level. The visitors then took the lead for the first time as evergreen Paul Guilcher found the back of the net with pinpoint precision. Less than a minute later the Capitals pulled the score level again as Mark Paterson was allowed space to beat Robbie Balfour in the Tigers net. The visiting Tigers were not ready to lie down though and a rare powerplay allowed Grant Reekie to fire home a shot that left Capitals netminder Craig Malinson stranded. As the period drew to an end the visitors continued to apply pressure. Scott Marr found Mark McLeod open and the winger notched Tigers 5th of the night to take a 2 goal lead in to the final 20 minutes.

The Edinburgh side came in to the 3rd period with an increased jump in their stride and before 7 minutes had been played they were back level once more. Sean Donaldson struck first, taking advantage of a powerplay situation before Joel Gautschi completed a slick move which left Tigers defence stationary. Ross Bree bagged his second of the night in the 53rd minute as he slotted a shot across the goalmouth that nestled low in the far corner. Another quick reaction by the hosts saw Mark Paterson grab his second of the night and tie the match up one more time. As quickly as the game was level the Tigers took the lead as Paul Guilcher once again showed his class as he slid home his second and Tigers 7th of the evening. As the Capitals pushed for another and pulled their keeper to bring on an additional skater Scott Marr broke free. The speedy winger made no mistake as he buried the puck in the back of the empty net to ensure an emphatic road victory for the Tigers and 2 valuable SNL points.

Final Score: Edinburgh Capitals 6 – Dundee Tigers 8

MoM: Scott Marr
