Aberdeen Lynx 8 - Dundee Tigers 5

The Tigers slipped their second SNL defeat in as many weeks to the Aberdeen Lynx on Saturday night in an ill-tempered affair.

The Taysiders had a golden opportunity to grab an early lead as they squandered a 2 man powerplay opportunity in the 4th minute but it was the Lynx who opened the scoring on their own powerplay, as Mark Laing grabbed his first of the night after 6 minutes. Laing was on target again with another powerplay marker half way through the period, but he paid the price for some over enthusiastic celebrations as he was assessed a 10 minute misconduct for unsportsmanlike conduct. Tempers flared as the period came to a close as Tigers John Robertson and Lynx’ Jamie Vincent were both ejected from the game.

Tigers threatened in the early exchanges of the second period and were unfortunate not to close the deficit, but It was the Lynx who scored again as Iain Malcolm took advantage of a defensive screen to shoot home off the inside of the post on another powerplay. In the 34th minute Fraser Maceacheran made it 4-0 with a blast from the point as the Tigers had a man in the box. Mark Laing completed his hat-trick in the 37th minute with the Lynx 5th powerplay goal of the evening. Tigers pulled back a goal with 2 minutes remaining as a quick release from Paul Guilcher beat the Lynx goalie through the 5-hole but Laing added to his and the Lynx tally with 40 seconds left to play. Just 6 seconds later Scott Marr was on target with a fine solo effort to end the period scoring at 6-2

Tigers seemed to have woken up in the third period and there was a noticeable increase in tempo from the visitors. However, Iain Malcolm found space to tap home at the back post and increase the hosts lead. 2 quick goals through Paul Guilcher and Kris Phillips gave the Tigers renewed hope at the midway point in the period but the completion of Iain Malcolm’s hat-trick with 7 minutes remaining gave the Tigers an unsurmountable task. Dan Topping blasted home a rocket of a first timer from the point with 8 seconds remaining but it was a case of too little, too late and the Tigers were sent back to Dundee licking their wounds.
