Dundee Tigers 3 - Edinburgh Capitals 11

The Tigers season came to a crashing end on Saturday night as they were defeated 3-11 in the Scottish Cup Semi Final by the Edinburgh Capitals.

It was a threadbare Tigers team that took to the ice, missing no fewer than 7 regulars for this re-scheduled fixture. Daniel Topping gave the hosts a dream opening with an impressive snipe over the left shoulder of the capitals keeper with just under 7 minutes gone. Within a minute the visitors drew level through Bruce Tait before they took a commanding lead as Joel Gautschi converted a powerplay marker, Ross Hay added a double and Neil Hay notched to put the Caps 5-1 up. Topping doubled his tally for the night with another quality goal in the 16th minute to finish the period scoring.

Tigers seemed to be in the accendancy early in the 2nd period as they played catch-up. The Capitals extended their lead though as, while on a 7 minute powerplay after the ejection of Stuart Barnett, Neil Hay added his second and James Wallace scored to make it 7-2. Topping was on hand to pounce on a loose puck coughed up by David Beatson to complete his hat-trick as the period came to a close and snuck the puck home.

With 2 minute remaining to salvage their season the Tigers pressed, but as session progressed the short benched hosts visably tired. Ross Hay completed his hat-trick on the midway mark of the period before 2 quick goals from Mark Paterson then Joel Gautschi effectively finished the Tigers challenge. Elite League regular James Wallace competed the scoring after Tigers backup goalie Matt Landsburgh was screened on the play and secured the visitors place in the Scottish Cup Final.
