Dundee Comets 2 - Dundee Tigers 4

It was all to play for at Dundee Ice Arena on Sunday night as The Tigers and The Comets faced off in the 2nd leg of the SNL Playoff Quarter-final. The Comets held a 3 goal advantage going in to the game after a 6-3 victory the previous week but the challenge facing the Tigers was one they were willing to embrace with vigour.

From the opening faceoff it was clear that the chasing Tigers were ready to do battle as they pressed the Comets deep in their zone. They took a big blow just 5 minutes to the game Ewan Heeles was lost to a nasty injury after an attack by Willie Nicholson which strangely saw both players recieve 2+2 for roughing. The teams exchanged powerplay opportunities with both defences standing strong before the Tigers broke the deadlock as Graeme Carstairs pinched in from the point to fire home the only goal of the period in the 13th minute and cut the aggregate deficit to 2.

Comets restored their advantage less than a minute after the restart as Lewis McIntosh pounced on a loose puck and bundled it in to the. Mark McLeod got Tigers back on track in the 25th minute as he beat Hogan in the Comets net and just a minute later Kris Phillips reduced the shortfall to just 1 with a finely executed back-hander. Tigers then killed an extended 5 on 3 session and completed the period with it all to play for in the final stanza.

The last period could not have got off to a worse start for the Tigers as Lewis Gold was able to fire home a slick solo effort just 13 seconds after the game got back underway. The fight was not out of the big cats yet though as Graeme Carstairs confused the Comets nettie with a shot from the point and set up a dramatic closing 7 minutes. As the seconds ticked by the Tigers pushed for the goal that would take the tie to penalty shots and came close through Mark McLeod in the final minute - but the dream was not to be realised and despite a 4-2 victory on the night the Comets progress to the Playoff Finals weekend with an 8-7 aggregate triumph.

Final Score: Comets 2 (8) - Tigers 4 (7) MoM: Matty Michie
