Dundee Tigers 3 - Dundee Comets 6

The Tigers gave themselves a tough task for the SNL Playoff Quarterfinal 2nd Leg as they were defeated 6-3 by the Dundee Comets on Sunday night.

The first period was hotly contested with both teams creating chances and defending strongly in equal measures. Comets struck first as John Gordon took advantage of a defensive error to fire home in to an empty net with 5 minutes gone. Tigers got back on level terms through the tenacious effort of Scott Marr who out muscled the Comets defence to grab a short-handed marker on the 15 minute mark. A minute later the Comets were ahead again as a wayward shot rebounded off the kickboard behind the Tigers net and found the stick of Richard Thorp to slot home and end the period scoring.

The Tigers couldn’t have started the 2nd session any better as Grant Reekie’s wrist shot floated past the Comets netminder with less than a minute gone. The host went to sleep though as Craig Findlay was allowed to skate the length of the rink before firing high in to the Tigers net to give the Comets the lead once more before Robbie Hill doubled the deficit at the midway point of the match. Findlay notched his second of the night with a blistering shot from the point in the 34th minute and Louis McIntosh finished a cheeky, through-the-legs move to put the visitors 4 ahead with a period to go.

It was a different Tigers that took to the ice in the third period and Reekie had cut the gap to 3 just 30 seconds as he hacked home despite being shorthanded. The hosts out-shot the visitors 14-3 in the final stanza and were unlucky not to cut the deficit further as they continued to press in attack. Now the focus moves to next week though as Tigers look to overturn a 3 goal shortfall to progress to the Playoff Finals weekend.
