Dundee Tigers 1 – Paisley Pirates 3

The Paisley Pirates sailed in to town on Valentines night for what promised to be one of the top matchups of the season. The first period got underway in explosive fashion as Pirates Captain Chris Turley was ejected from the game after only 24 seconds when he was penalised delivering and over enthusiastic hit on Scott Marr, which resulted in a nasty facial injury to the Tiger’s number 10. Early momentum was in favour of the visitors and they got off the mark as Fraser Campbell pounced to bundle home a scrappy opener in the 9th minute. Tigers did well to absorb the pressure for the remainder of the period, and even created some chances of their own, but the Pirates deserved their one goal advantage at the end of the session.

Period 2 saw the Tigers penalised by referee Fraser on no fewer than 5 occasions, including a 10 minute misconduct to goalkeeper Matty Michie. At the midway point of the period the Pirates took advantage of one of their powerplay opportunities as David Orr finished after what appeared to be a hand pass that went unnoticed. Some solid penalty killing kept the differential at 2 as the period came to a close and set up a tense final stanza.

The Tigers seemed to build in confidence in the 3rd period and a number of quality chances were turned away by the visiting keeper. Steven Turnbull gave the host fans hope as he slotted home with a deft touch 5 minutes from time. As the Tigers chased the elusive equaliser netminder Michie was pulled in favour of an extra attacker, but the gamble didn’t pull off as a Martin Guy dump trundled its way in to the empty net and conclude the evening’s scoring.
