Aberdeen Lynx 3 - Dundee Tigers 3

The Tigers visited their North East neighbours on Saturday 20th of December in a match that verified that this fixture is starting to turn in to a fierce rivalry. It didn't take long for the teams to set their stalls for the game ahead. A frantic opening shift saw action aroun the Lynx net before Tigers Daniel Topping was assessed a 2 minute penalty. No sooner were the visitors back to full strength they were a man down again as Paul Guilcher was sent to the box. Penalties killed, the Tigers took the game to the hosts on the way to outshooting them 13-8 in the opening period. It was the Lynx however who took the lead as Jordan Leyden pounced to sneak the puck home for the only goal of the session against the run of play. The second started as the first began with both teams wrestling for dominance. A laser of shot from Topping brought the Tigers level on the night just 4 minutes in before Ross McIntosh fired home to restore the lead for the Lynx. With the hosts temporarily energised they continued to apply pressure to the wounded Tigers. That momentum was quashed though when Kris Phillips confused the Lynx keeper to place the puck neatly home to end the period scoring with 8 minutes remaining. Both teams ha chances early in the 3rd but the Tigers were the team in ascencence. Chance after chance fell to the visitors but Theo Kynoch in the Lynx net stood strong. A major penalty to Tigers captain Stuart Barnett threatened to derail Tigers aspirations - but Paul Guilcher didn't get that memo as he deftly slotted home a cheeky shorthanded marker with just under 6 minutes remaining. It was even stevens just 30 seconds later though as McIntosh was in the right place at the right time to finish off a well worked powerplay move to set up a tense close to the game. As each side looked for an opening both defences and keepers stood true and the teams played out a hotly contested draw. With Tigers outshooting their rivals 37-28 overall their is an inkling that this result was more of a point lost than a point gained, but it is a point on the road none the less.
