Edinburgh Capitals 6 - Dundee Tigers 0

Tigers gave themselves a mountain to climb in the Autumn Cup after a 6-0 defeat in Edinburgh against the Capitals tonight. It was a skeleton Tigers squad that faced off against a Capitals team bolstered by a number of Elite League regulars. The short benched visitor were unfased however and an exciting but ultimately goal-less first period ensued. Early play was in favor of the Tigers as Grant Reekie came close in the opening exchanges and the game soon settled in with both teams creating chances and both goaltenders holding strong. The Tigers went from short benched to shorter benched when Scott Marr was ejected from the game with just 5 minutes remaining in the period forcing a reshuffle of lines. Joel Gautschi opened the scoring for the hosts just 30 seconds in to the 2nd stanza and Ross Hay doubled the lead 4 minutes later. As the big ice and lack of bodies took it's toll on the visitors th Cap's turned on the pressure and 2 quickfire goals found their way past Matty Michie in the Tigers net as Hay netted his 2nd before Black added the 4th of the night. Calum Boyd picked out the top corner of the net on a 2 on 1 breakaway to make it 5 unanswered and end the period scoring. Tigers started the 3rd period under penalty and no sooner were they back to full strength they were back down to 4. The Capitals took advantage of the ensuing powerplay with Sean Beattie finishing off a smart move for their 6th of the night. Tigers lost another as debutant John Robertson was sent to the dressing room after venting his frustrations to the match officials and it was left to the remaining 9 skaters to see out the last 15 minutes of the game. With the return leg of this fixture still to be confirmed Tigers will be turning their attentions to a full schedule as the festive period approaches.
